The smart and creative solution to environmentally sustainable lighting
Solar SkyLights
Harvests daylight by converting solar energy via a Solar Panel on the roof to drive a daylight-simulator LED array on the ceiling. This new green technology is known as a Hybrid Solar Lighting Device or HSLD.
Our solar lighing systems immediately enhances the overall feeling of any dark space, and the spatial appeal of a well-lit room just makes life a lot brighter. And the good news is our solutions now as flexible as you want it to be!
Our solar lights bring daylight into the darker corners of your home without cutting a large opening in your roof. A compact solar panel on the roof captures sunlight and sends it, via a low-voltage cable, to slim LED light fittings in your ceiling. As the day brightens and fades, so does the light in your room – the natural feel of a solar skylight, powered entirely by the sun.
Because there’s no light shaft, the fittings can go almost anywhere a cable can reach: hallways, bathrooms, ensuites, walk-in robes, pantries, laundries, and rooms under flat or complex rooflines where a skylight or Skytube isn’t practical. One panel can run several fittings across different rooms, and the system can be expanded later as your needs grow.
TECHNOLOGY
Each system has two parts: a high-efficiency monocrystalline solar panel mounted on your roof, and one or more energy-efficient LED fittings in the ceiling below. The panel feeds the fittings directly with extra-low-voltage DC power, so there’s no connection to your switchboard and nothing drawn from the grid during the day. Panels range from 20W to 250W and are sized to the total wattage of the fittings, with mounting brackets to suit both tile and metal roofs.
- Recessed and surface-mount fittings in round, square and rectangular styles, from 110mm downlights to 1200 × 300mm flat panels.
- Up to 3,800 lumens* from a single 48W fitting
- 5000K daylight colour as standard, with 3000K warm white available in selected fittings
- IC-4 rated and UL certified fittings, suitable for insulated ceilings
- Optional remote control for dimming and on/off
- Optional Day/Night kit to switch over to mains power after dark
*As a guide, in full sun a 12W fitting gives roughly the light of a 60W incandescent globe, a 24W fitting a 75W globe, and a 48W fitting about two 75W globes.
BENEFITS
Rooms filled with natural-feeling light are simply nicer to live in – they look bigger, feel more welcoming and are easier to work in. Because the system runs on sunlight, that light costs nothing to run during the day. And with no large opening in the roof, there’s none of the heat transfer or leak risk that can come with a traditional skylight.
- No running cost
- No roof cut-out, shaft or dome – just a compact panel
- No roof cut-out, shaft or dome – just a compact panel
- Suits tile and metal roofs
- Round, square and rectangular designs
- Lights inner rooms that skylights and tubes can’t reach
- No heat gain in summer or heat loss in winter
- No structural changes to your roof framing
- One panel can power several fittings across different rooms
- Even light spread across the room
- Safe extra-low-voltage DC system
- Light follows the sky, softening as clouds pass over
- No UV to fade floors and furnishings
- Easy to add fittings later with a larger panel
- Long warranties: up to 7 years on fittings, 25-year performance warranty on panels

Solar Lights – Common Questions
How bright are solar lights? A single fitting puts out up to 3,800 lumens in full sun. As a guide, a 24W fitting gives roughly the light of a 75W incandescent globe, and we size the fittings to suit your room.
Do they work on cloudy days? Yes. The light follows the sky, so it’s softer on overcast or rainy days, but the fittings keep working at reduced brightness.
Can I use them at night? In standard form they run on solar power during daylight hours. An optional Day/Night kit lets you flick a switch over to mains power for evening use.
Can I dim them or switch them off? Yes, with the optional remote control. It can be added when your system is installed or retrofitted later.
Can they run off my existing rooftop solar system? No. Household solar systems run at much higher voltages. Solar lights use their own small, dedicated panel matched to the fittings.
Can I add more lights later? Yes. Choosing a larger panel up front leaves spare capacity, so extra fittings can be connected later without a second panel.
Do they come with a remote? Yes
Can they come on automaticly? Yes
Solar light or skylight – which is right for me? A skylight or Skytube brings in real daylight and suits rooms directly under the roof. Solar lights suit rooms where a light shaft isn’t practical, or where you’d rather avoid a roof opening. We’re happy to advise on the best option for each room.
